Uzma Mir: Co-founder & Executive Producer
With 30 years of experience working across radio and television as a director, producer and executive producer Uzma worked for BBC Scotland for the first 16 years of her career across a variety of genres from Features and Documentary to Education and Children’s. Latterly, she was an executive producer at CBBC Scotland working on award-winning shows like Balamory, Raven and factual entertainment show Rule the School, as well as executive producing Children in Need Scotland and sci-fi drama Jeopardy.
Uzma set up Turmeric in 2008 as a way of balancing a young family and working, gaining a steady flow of commissions over the years in Factual, Learning and radio Comedy and Drama. She produced and directed Turmeric's documentary After Sheku which was highly commended by RTS Scotland.
From 2019 to 2023 she returned to the BBC, executive producing 60 episodes of the popular family drama Molly and Mack for CBeebies. In 2022 she was also Series Producer on series 1 of Olga Da Polga based on the Michael Bond books (working for production company Maramedia).
She has been a mentor for the Scottish Documentary Institute’s mentoring programme, a weekly columnist for the Herald newspaper, has presented radio documentaries and is a regular jury member for both BAFTA Scotland and Royal Television Society Scotland awards. She’s also a board member of Bijli Productions - a diverse-focused theatre production company - and a former board member of the Glasgow Film Theatre.
Kate Hook: Production Manager
With over 40 year’s experience in a number of television and radio roles, Kate has worked in Production Management on news, live events, documentaries, entertainment series and sport. She was part of the team training new technology when BBC Scotland moved to new HQ at Pacific Quay, both as Production Executive and trainer. After 25 years at the BBC she became a freelance Production Manager, working for a number of independent production companies including Turmeric where she has deftly and expertly production managed all of our TV commissions.
